Since the pandemic, it has become clear that a hybrid model of working is here to stay. There has been significant growth in enterprise video traffic since 2020. Organizations in the region are wrestling with how to accommodate this increase in video data traffic without compromising network performance. But first, let’s go through the myriad applications of video for any growing organization.

Organizations rely on video to share important information with employees and other stakeholders, such as training material and policy updates.

Business performance meetings across geographies can also happen easily using video as a tool.

Workshops for employees and stakeholders can also be conducted via video, etc.

However, organizations need to understand that for video applications to be a fruitful endeavor, they need to make sure that there is enough network bandwidth, and the network should have high latency sensitivity.

Technacy’s Multicast IPTV solution allows any organization to cost-effectively use its existing multicast network to continue delivering business-critical video content across the network. Technacy’s IPTV platforms are flexible, robust, and scalable to fit any enterprise’s need. The platform can start with a simple setup, and as the company grows and develops, they can expand the platform to offer additional video solutions like video-on-demand and video archiving functionality.

The Middle East proposes new opportunities for organizations to scale up, and organizations must be prepared to embrace video content broadcast through multicast delivery on an enterprise-wide scale. Employees who require video as part of their day-to-day jobs will be able to be more productive, thereby increasing customer satisfaction and reflecting positively on the bottom line. The industries that should find immediate use of being on IPTV include telecom companies, real estate development companies, medical, hospitality, military, sporting events, and many more. The application has both commercial and residential uses.

Technacy’s vision is to add value to enterprise investments in IPTV distribution systems by bringing high-quality, low-latency video experiences to desktops and laptops without further investment in physical hardware, set-top boxes, or smart TVs.

Is your organization ready to be a part of this revolution?
The post Organizations should transition to Multicast distribution of Business IPTV appeared first on Technacy Solutions.

Video communication and strong IPTV Streaming is an investment for the digital future

For the uninitiated, IPTV (Internet Protocol Television) implies that television is transmitted (streamed) through the internet. This allows viewers to enjoy movies, television series, and documentaries seamlessly. It has gained popularity due to its dependability. The feed is not broadcast over the public internet under closed network delivery. Instead, the stream is broadcast over a private network and originates from a private internet protocol (IP) rather than a public IP.

Why is everybody excited about IPTV streaming? Before we jump into the intricacies of this, it will be important to understand how IPTV is used. It is used in three different ways:

Live TV: We have all enjoyed the recent football world cup streamed live through IPTV. IPTV allows you to watch live events from any internet-connected device, whether on the move or at home. In other words, even if a person does not have a cable subscription or access, they can still watch live material using IPTV.

Video on demand: VoD is gaining popularity and some of the more seen examples are Hulu and HBO. As a business strategy, these services allow customers to purchase a base membership. And then purchase access to additional channels and content. This strategy is increasingly being seen on sites like Amazon Prime.

Time-shifted TV: This alternative walks the line between live television and video on demand (VoD). On occasion, there is content on television that a customer would want to see live but does not have the time to do so. Consumers who watch time-shifted television can watch it at their convenience but within a limited time period. They can, for example, watch an episode of their favorite late-night show the following day if they miss one. In general, time-shifted TV refers to watching programming that has only recently been shown through a set-top box.

We have every reason to believe that, IPTV streaming and video communications have a very bright future given its technological advancements and obvious benefits. We can list them here:

There are some key financial benefits corporate enterprises will achieve if they use IPTV platforms such as using IPTV can offer lower power consumption figures than a PC-based solution.

When it comes to the user end, the fact that AV (audio-visual) content can be played on existing client PC’s, there is no need to invest in additional viewing screens or TVs for the AV content, nor the need to power up these separate units.

IPTV solutions capitalize on the organization’s existing bandwidth. Bandwidth is necessary to receive data to and from the rest of the world. However, because enterprise IPTV is operating within the organization’s LAN (local area network), Campus or IP network it utilizes the almost limitless capacity here via multicast technology to distribute TV and Video in both SD (standard definition) and HD (high definition) to a limitless number of users.

IPTV platforms offer very robust video streaming capability with minimal maintenance costs versus PC-based solutions, where the PC can potentially fail and require repair time and skilled labor.

With cooler operation due to the lower power consumption, IPTV platforms require less air-conditioning in the server racks. Less equipment also means less rack space usage. For example, distributing the same number of TV channels by using TV gateways requires less IPTV devices and less power than if using other traditional distribution methods.

All these easy advantages come to an organization with switching over to IPTV services. Hence it makes it worthwhile feasibility to carry out for any large organization, especially those still using the remote way of working to use IPTV making it a cost-effective investment for a digital future.

Social media conglomerate Meta is the latest tech company to build an “AI supercomputer” — a high-speed computer designed specifically to train machine learning systems. The company says its new AI Research SuperCluster, or RSC, is already among the fastest machines of its type and, when complete in mid-2022, will be the world’s fastest.

“Meta has developed what we believe is the world’s fastest AI supercomputer,” said Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg in a statement. “We’re calling it RSC for AI Research SuperCluster and it’ll be complete later this year.”

The news demonstrates the absolute centrality of AI research to companies like Meta. Rivals like Microsoft and Nvidia have already announced their own “AI supercomputers,” which are slightly different from what we think of as regular supercomputers. RSC will be used to train a range of systems across Meta’s businesses: from content moderation algorithms used to detect hate speech on Facebook and Instagram to augmented reality features that will one day be available in the company’s future AR hardware. And, yes, Meta says RSC will be used to design experiences for the metaverse — the company’s insistent branding for an interconnected series of virtual spaces, from offices to online arenas.

“RSC WILL HELP META’S AI RESEARCHERS BUILD NEW AND BETTER AI MODELS”

“RSC will help Meta’s AI researchers build new and better AI models that can learn from trillions of examples; work across hundreds of different languages; seamlessly analyze text, images, and video together; develop new augmented reality tools; and much more,” write Meta engineers Kevin Lee and Shubho Sengupta in a blog post outlining the news.

“We hope RSC will help us build entirely new AI systems that can, for example, power real-time voice translations to large groups of people, each speaking a different language, so they can seamlessly collaborate on a research project or play an AR game together.”

Work on RSC began a year and a half ago, with Meta’s engineers designing the machine’s various systems — cooling, power, networking, and cabling — entirely from scratch. Phase one of RSC is already up and running and consists of 760 Nvidia GGX A100 systems containing 6,080 connected GPUs (a type of processor that’s particularly good at tackling machine learning problems). Meta says it’s already providing up to 20 times improved performance on its standard machine vision research tasks.

Before the end of 2022, though, phase two of RSC will be complete. At that point, it’ll contain some 16,000 total GPUs and will be able to train AI systems “with more than a trillion parameters on data sets as large as an exabyte.” (This raw number of GPUs only provides a narrow metric for a system’s overall performance, but, for comparison’s sake, Microsoft’s AI supercomputer built with research lab OpenAI is built from 10,000 GPUs.)

These numbers are all very impressive, but they do invite the question: what is an AI supercomputer anyway? And how does it compare to what we usually think of as supercomputers — vast machines deployed by universities and governments to crunch numbers in complex domains like space, nuclear physics, and climate change?

The two types of systems, known as high-performance computers or HPCs, are certainly more similar than they are different. Both are closer to datacenters than individual computers in size and appearance and rely on large numbers of interconnected processors to exchange data at blisteringly fast speeds. But there are key differences between the two, as HPC analyst Bob Sorensen of Hyperion Research explains to The Verge. “AI-based HPCs live in a somewhat different world than their traditional HPC counterparts,” says Sorensen, and the big distinction is all about accuracy.

AI SUPERCOMPUTERS AND REGULAR SUPERCOMPUTERS CAN’T NECESSARILY BE COMPARED APPLES TO APPLES

The brief explanation is that machine learning requires less accuracy than the tasks put to traditional supercomputers, and so “AI supercomputers” (a bit of recent branding) can carry out more calculations per second than their regular brethren using the same hardware. That means when Meta says it’s built the “world’s fastest AI supercomputer,” it’s not necessarily a direct comparison to the supercomputers you often see in the news (rankings of which are compiled by the independent Top500.org and published twice a year).

To explain this a little more, you need to know that both supercomputers and AI supercomputers make calculations using what is known as floating-point arithmetic — a mathematical shorthand that’s extremely useful for making calculations using very large and very small numbers (the “floating point” in question is the decimal point, which “floats” between significant figures). The degree of accuracy deployed in floating-point calculations can be adjusted based on different formats, and the speed of most supercomputers is calculated using what are known as 64-bit floating-point operations per second, or FLOPs. However, because AI calculations require less accuracy, AI supercomputers are often measured in 32-bit or even 16-bit FLOPs. That’s why comparing the two types of systems is not necessarily apples to apples, though this caveat doesn’t diminish the incredible power and capacity of AI supercomputers.

Sorensen offers one extra word of caution, too. As is often the case with the “speeds and feeds” approach to assessing hardware, vaunted top speeds are not always representative. “HPC vendors typically quote performance numbers that indicate the absolute fastest their machine can run. We call that the theoretical peak performance,” says Sorensen. “However, the real measure of a good system design is one that can run fast on the jobs they are designed to do. Indeed, it is not uncommon for some HPCs to achieve less than 25 percent of their so-called peak performance when running real-world applications.”

In other words: the true utility of supercomputers is to be found in the work they do, not their theoretical peak performance. For Meta, that work means building moderation systems at a time when trust in the company is at an all-time low and means creating a new computing platform — whether based on augmented reality glasses or the metaverse — that it can dominate in the face of rivals like Google, Microsoft, and Apple. An AI supercomputer offers the company raw power, but Meta still needs to find the winning strategy on its own.

The metaverse, which requires a massive amount of computing power, is set to benefit global chipmakers— but other tech-related industries could also gain from it, analysts say.

Widely seen as the next generation of the internet, the metaverse refers broadly to a virtual world where humans interact through three-dimensional avatars that can be controlled via virtual reality headsets like Oculus.

Through the metaverse, users can engage in virtual activities such as gaming, virtual concerts or live sports.

The metaverse drew much attention last year when social networking giant Facebook announced it was changing its name to Meta in October.

Big tech firms will benefit as the technologies related to that virtual world emerge, analysts said.

“The metaverse winners are really the technology companies,” DBS Bank’s Chief Investment Officer Hou Wey Fook told CNBC’s “Squawk Box Asia” on Monday. Semiconductor firms would be a clear beneficiary as the metaverse will need a lot of computing power, he said.

However, the benefits to chipmakers will be “uneven,” Morningstar said in a report last week.

“Since many of the tasks that take place in a ‘metaverse’ involve real-time processing of immense amount of data, this will require the chips involved to use advanced process nodes that are only available at TSMC, Samsung and Intel,” it said.

Smaller foundries such as United Microelectronics Corporation, SMIC and GlobalFoundries may only benefit from the lower-value parts of the supply chain, such as power management and display drivers, said Morningstar.

Last year, shares of chipmaker Nvidia soared 125% on metaverse hopes. CNBC’s Jim Cramer picked Nvidia as one of four key stocks that investors should buy if they want to bet on the success of the metaverse.

Other main areas set to support the metaverse infrastructure that investors could consider would be firms that are supplying the “key building blocks,” such as cloud computing, artificial intelligence and video games graphics, said private banking firm Lombard Odier in a December report.

In such cashless, virtual environments, blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies may also play a key role. Blockchain supporting non-fungible tokens, or NFTs — digital tokens that represent proof of ownership of assets such as art, collectibles or memes — could create an “interesting” ecosystem for digital content creation and monetization, the bank said.

Facebook parent Meta, as well as Apple, Microsoft and Google are gearing up to release new hardware products and software services for the metaverse.

In Asia, China is set to go big on the metaverse as well. Its biggest city, Shanghai, included the metaverse in its five-year development plan. The plan called for “encouraging the application of the metaverse in areas such as public services, business offices, social entertainment, industrial manufacturing, production safety and electronic games.”

FOR MORE THAN a decade now, OLED (organic light-emitting diode) displays have set the bar for screen quality, albeit at a price. That’s because they produce deep blacks, offer wide viewing angles, and have a broad color range. Meanwhile, QD (quantum dot) technologies have done a lot to improve the color purity and brightness of the more wallet-friendly LCD TVs.

In 2022, these two rival technologies will merge. The name of the resulting hybrid is still evolving, but QD-OLED seems to make sense, so I’ll use it here, although Samsung has begun to call its version of the technology QD Display.

To understand why this combination is so appealing, you have to know the basic principles behind each of these approaches to displaying a moving image.

In an LCD TV, the LED backlight, or at least a big section of it, is on all at once. The picture is created by filtering this light at the many individual pixels. Unfortunately, that filtering process isn’t perfect, and in areas that should appear black some light gets through.

In OLED displays, the red, green, and blue diodes that comprise each pixel emit light and are turned on only when they are needed. So black pixels appear truly black, while bright pixels can be run at full power, allowing unsurpassed levels of contrast.

But there’s a drawback. The colored diodes in an OLED TV degrade over time, causing what’s called “burn-in.” And with these changes happening at different rates for the red, green, and blue diodes, the degradation affects the overall ability of a display to reproduce colors accurately as it ages and also causes “ghost” images to appear where static content is frequently displayed.

Adding QDs into the mix shifts this equation. Quantum dots—nanoparticles of semiconductor material—absorb photons and then use that energy to emit light of a different wavelength. In a QD-OLED display, all the diodes emit blue light. To get red and green, the appropriate diodes are covered with red or green QDs. The result is a paper-thin display with a broad range of colors that remain accurate over time. These screens also have excellent black levels, wide viewing angles, and improved power efficiency over both OLED and LCD displays.

Samsung is the driving force behind the technology, having sunk billions into retrofitting an LCD fab in Tangjeong, South Korea, for making QD-OLED displays While other companies have published articles and demonstrated similar approaches, only

Samsung has committed to manufacturing these displays, which makes sense because it holds all of the required technology in house. Having both the OLED fab and QD expertise under one roof gives Samsung a big leg up on other QD-display manufacturers.,

Samsung first announced QD-OLED plans in 2019, then pushed out the release date a few times. It now seems likely that we will see public demos in early 2022 followed by commercial products later in the year, once the company has geared up for high-volume production. At this point, Samsung can produce a maximum of 30,000 QD-OLED panels a month; these will be used in its own products. In the grand scheme of things, that’s not that much.

Unfortunately, as with any new display technology, there are challenges associated with development and commercialization.

For one, patterning the quantum-dot layers and protecting them is complicated. Unlike QD-enabled LCD displays (commonly referred to as QLED) where red and green QDs are dispersed uniformly in a polymer film, QD-OLED requires the QD layers to be patterned and aligned with the OLEDs behind them. And that’s tricky to do. Samsung is expected to employ inkjet printing, an approach that reduces the waste of QD material.

Another issue is the leakage of blue light through the red and green QD layers. Leakage of only a few percent would have a significant effect on the viewing experience, resulting in washed-out colors. If the red and green QD layers don’t do a good job absorbing all of the blue light impinging on them, an additional blue-blocking layer would be required on top, adding to the cost and complexity.

Another challenge is that blue OLEDs degrade faster than red or green ones do. With all three colors relying on blue OLEDs in a QD-OLED design, this degradation isn’t expected to cause as severe color shifts as with traditional OLED displays, but it does decrease brightness over the life of the display.

Today, OLED TVs are typically the most expensive option on retail shelves. And while the process for making QD-OLED simplifies the OLED layer somewhat (because you need only blue diodes), it does not make the display any less expensive. In fact, due to the large number of quantum dots used, the patterning steps, and the special filtering required, QD-OLED displays are likely to be more expensive than traditional OLED ones—and way more expensive than LCD TVs with quantum-dot color purification. Early adopters may pay about US $5,000 for the first QD-OLED displays when they begin selling later this year. Those buyers will no doubt complain about the prices—while enjoying a viewing experience far better than anything they’ve had before.

Future Market Insights (FMI) in a recent market survey offers insights into various aspects impacting the global set top box market, comprising key drivers, challenges, opportunities, and restraints. The study covers recent developments across segments of the market such as product type and video quality across seven major regions.

DUBAI, UAE, Nov. 30, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — Global sales of set-top boxes are projected to grow at a robust 9% CAGR over the forecast period of 2021 and 2031, opines Future Market Insights (FMI) in a recent market analysis.

Increasing adoption of smart technologies and devices will continue propelling sales of set-top boxes, pushing the market size from US$ 28 Bn in 2021 to US$ 46.09 Bn in 2031.

Growing penetration of smart televisions across the globe is anticipated to spur the demand for high-definition (HD) set-top boxes. Against this backdrop, FMI has forecast sales of set-top boxes to grow by 11% year-over-year between 2020 and 2021.

Request a report sample with 298 pages to gain comprehensive insights at https://www.futuremarketinsights.com/reports/sample/rep-gb-4594

Besides this, rising popularity of over-the-top (OTT) platforms is creating a conducive environment for growth in the global set-top box market. This trend is increasingly becoming prevalent in countries such as India, China, and Japan.

To capitalize on this trend, manufacturers are launching set-top boxes in collaboration with OTT platforms such as Amazon Prime and Discovery+ to gain a competitive edge. As a result, sales of OTT device set-top boxes are expected to gain traction in the forthcoming years.

Further, governments in various countries are encouraging the adoption of smart technologies and devices. For instance, the Cable Television Networks Act in India mandates the adoption of set-top boxes to prevent the broadcasting of illegal channels and provide a better video quality to residents living in rural areas.

As per FMI, the U.S. is expected to emerge as a lucrative pocket in the North America set-top box market. Growth is attributable to rising demand for IPTV set-top boxes and increasing popularity of OTT platforms in the country.

“Ongoing advancements in digital broadcasting technology are expected to create lucrative opportunities for players operating in the global set-top box market. In addition to this, growing popularity of OTT platforms through social media is expected to continue pushing sales of set-top boxes over the forecast period,” says an FMI analyst.

Key Takeaways:

In terms of product type, sales of OTT (over-the-top) set-top boxes are expected to total US$ 3.03 Bn in 2021.

Based on video quality, the HD video quality segment is projected to top US$ 18.5 Bn by 2031.

Sales of set-top boxes in the U.S. are estimated to remain high due to growing popularity of OTT device set-top boxes.

India will emerge as a lucrative set-top box market, owing to government initiatives such as Make in India that are encouraging the adoption of smart technologies in rural areas.

China is expected to account for a dominant share in the East Asia set-top box market, exhibiting an incremental opportunity of US$ 10.05 Bn by 2031.

Japan and South Korea are expected to command 34% and 20% of the global set-top box market share in 202, respectively.

Prominent Drivers:

Growing demand for features such as digital video recording is expected to propel sales of set-top boxes.

As the climate crisis looms large in our cultural and political conversations, the world’s biggest companies are under pressure to step up and show us what they’re doing to deal with it. Tech companies are no exception and on Wednesday, Google announced updates to Search and Maps designed to help people reduce their environmental impact.

Among the key features introduced is a dedicated page in search results that’ll show up later this month when people search for answers to questions about climate change. Much like the climate science information hub introduced by Facebook last year, the page will provide people with in-depth information about climate change, including actions, causes, effects and definitions, from high-quality sources such as the United Nations.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai hosted a sustainability-focused event on Tuesday from outside one of Google’s campus buildings in California. The building’s roof is covered in 50,000 solar panels that make up a scalelike skin, which will eventually help things run on 90% carbon-free energy, according to the company.

Pichai described this as a “physical manifestation of our commitment to sustainability, one that goes back to our founding 23 years ago.”

The aim is for all of Google to run on carbon-free energy by 2030 — a goal Pichai referred to as one of the company’s “moonshots,” which it first announced last year. Right now, its data centers are running 67% carbon-free, up from 61% in 2019, the company says.

And while Google is shouldering some of the responsibility for improving its eco-credentials, it says it also wants consumers to make good, informed decisions and wants third-party companies to ensure they’re living up to the expectations of more sustainability-minded consumers.

Travel, transit and shopping

Starting immediately, Google searches related to travel will show people information about whether hotels have made meaningful commitments to sustainability, including whether they’ve received any environmental certifications. Some hotel groups have already started adding this information themselves, which will put pressure on others to do the same. Google will also show the associated carbon dioxide emissions for every flight you look up directly in search results, including seat-specific details (unfortunately it’s more eco-friendly to travel economy than business or first because the seats take up less space). Google will also put that information in context by saying whether it’s high or low.

Early next year, also in the US, Google will introduce tags to help buyers better identify electric and hybrid cars. When you look into a specific electric model, it’ll show compatible charging stations nearby and typical charging times, as part of its mission to make it easier for people to shop for eco-friendly vehicles and understand the benefits of driving electric.

Those who do still drive gas or diesel cars aren’t being left out. An immediate update to Google Maps in the US (and coming to Europe next year) will see the company use AI to recommend the most fuel-efficient route for you to take as the default option. (If this route significantly adds to your ETA over the fastest route, you’ll be presented with options).

The company expects that this feature, developed with insights from the US Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory, has the potential to save more than 1 million tons of carbon emissions per year — the equivalent of removing over 200,000 cars from the road, according to Sarah-Jayne Williams, Google’s director of global product partnerships.

As for two-wheeled transport options, Google is bringing bike- and scooter-share information to an additional 300 cities starting immediately, and will be introducing Lite Navigation for cyclists in the coming months. This will allow people to see basic but important information about their route, including ETA, elevation and trip progress, without having to keep their screen on or enter turn-by-turn navigation.

Google’s chief sustainability officer, Kate Brandt, took the opportunity of the company introducing new transit options to also announce research it had been conducting in Israel (and will soon be expanding to Rio de Janeiro) to use AI to optimize traffic light efficiency across cities. The aim, she explained, is to reduce fuel wastage and wait time, which it’s successfully achieved by between 10% to 20% so far.

“Solving sustainability isn’t just something we’re doing at Google,” Brandt said. “We are building it into our products, so that the sustainable choice becomes an easier choice for everyone.” Courtesy: CNET

Among technology firms that have plans to invest in artificial intelligence (AI), a third expect to invest at least a million dollars over the next two years. And among these companies, almost all (87 per cent) expect industry-wide funding for AI to increase at least moderately, if not significantly, throughout 2022.

These are the findings of a new report published by analyst firm Gartner, based on a poll of 268 respondents from across the globe, which asserts that AI has the second-highest mean funding allocation compared with other emerging technologies.

Among those investing in AI, computer vision is the most popular technology (an average of $679,000 over two years), Gartner further said. And very few organizations reported investing less than $250,000 in AI.

However, according to Errol Rasit, Managing VP at Gartner, AI is not an easy segment to enter “due to the complexity of building and training AI models.”

Compared to other areas of innovation, AI is also relatively immature, with roughly half of respondents reporting significant target customer adoption of their AI-enabled products and services. For 41 per cent, AI emerging technologies are still either in the early adoption stages or in development. Some of the key roadblocks, the respondents confirmed, are product complexity and a lack of skills.

“Technology organizations are increasing investments in AI as they recognize its potential to not only assess critical data and improve business efficiency but also to create new products and services, expand their customer base and generate new revenue. These are serious investments that will help to dispel AI hype,” Rasit added.

“These survey responses reflect the difficult cycle of developing AI technology, given its complexity, as well as industrywide challenges in hiring AI talent due to the finite number of skilled individuals.”

In this era of endless possibilities, we can literally create wonders. Years ago did we even think about the possibility of making our drawings move? Did we imagine creating a realistic 3D drawing? And most importantly, who would have thought 3D animation can also help in business and branding?

Animation has become nowadays one of the most essential tools for the market and business to use it for advertising. What makes animation more unique and useful than other methods?

It has many advanced characteristics that other advertising methods can not provide. There are different types of animation, 3D animation is one of the most popular and demanding these days.

What are 3D animation and its significance?

Nowadays, 3D or computer animation is expected to be the most common type. On that note, there are some people who think that since it is basically a drawing in which a computer has stepped in, it makes the process easier. But, those who know what animation is and how it works, can admit that it is not that easy. 3D animation is a long, hardworking process.

This 3D animation method has different features, varieties and usage for each purpose in the different industries. For example, We all have seen in animated movies how the animator has designed everything properly, from moving the body parts of a character to observing that all the body parts have been placed in the right position. They have to do this for each scene, and the computer controls the other things as per the instruction. We also have noticed that 3D modelling animations show various visual effects that can attract the viewer and create a good amount of engagement. For your business, 3D animation easily can attract viewers for a specific product and envision your overall business as well.

You have also probably noticed some commercials that have used 3D animation. We know that 3D animation is defined as the 3D objects which are then turned into animated or moveable objects. There are different types of 3D animation such as stop-motion and CGI etc.

What makes 3D animation essential for businesses as well? Our brain can remember and

catch things better when something is in a visual form rather than in just text form. For this, we tend to engage with the contents having good videos and visual effects.

Queenslanders could have skin cancer diagnosed earlier using world-first 3D scanning technology with the launch of the Australian Cancer Research Foundation Australian Centre of Excellence in Melanoma Imaging and Diagnosis.

University of Queensland Dermatologist Professor H. Peter Soyer said the technology enabled researchers to track moles and skin spots over time using full body mapping, making it a game-changer for melanoma detection.

“This technology is revolutionising early melanoma detection using 3D state-of-the-art body imaging systems that take an image in milliseconds,” Professor Soyer said.

“The telemedicine network allows dermatologists and medical professionals to detect skin cancers remotely, even from the other side of the country.

“For the first time, medical researchers can access a national database of up to 100,000 patient images taken by 3D full body imaging systems located in Queensland, NSW and Victoria, as part of the world’s largest melanoma imaging trial, which aims to develop more efficient and effective screening for the early detection of skin cancer.

“Using algorithms created by artificial intelligence, the 3D imaging systems are able to analyse the images and produce a full body skin spot map, which transforms the way we will monitor patients in the future.”

Australia has the highest rates of melanoma in the world with an average 28,000 Australians diagnosed with the disease every year.

ACRF chief executive officer Kerry Strydom said the Australian Cancer Research Foundation backed the best in research and cutting-edge technology to drive innovation and help create the new Centre.

“Melanoma is a deadly problem that needs disruptive solutions, and ACRF is proud to be to be involved in delivering revolutionary research through this pioneering program,” Mr Strydom said.

The project brings together three leading Australian universities in skin research, UQ, The University of Sydney and Melbourne’s Monash University, to form the interconnected Centre of Excellence in Diagnostic Imaging of Early Melanoma.

Harnessing the Power of Video

Today people have adapted to—and are very comfortable with—streaming video content at home. Content providers like Netflix, Hulu, and Disney+ have clearly shown that content consumption during the pandemic has skyrocketed.

This appetite for streaming content in the home has extended to the enterprise. In a recent BTR-100 survey commissioned by VITEC, survey respondents reported a significant rise in video traffic, led by the growing reliance on video conferencing to facilitate collaboration in support of today’s work-from-home (WFH) environment. Other video applications are also rising, including streaming video, in-house multimedia content creation, digital signage, and security camera feeds. 89% of respondents stated that COVID-19 has elevated the need to support IPTV traffic on corporate networks.

This has had an impact on enterprise networks that executive decision-makers need to understand. That is why it is so important to have solid analytics about enterprise video. Analytics are key to understanding and creating engaging video content. They provide insight into target audience preferences and provide information that can be used to tailor new content for different constituencies across organizations.

Analytics provide insight into what content is popular with people who are viewing it—a very important aspect of ensuring the effective utilization of enterprise video and the metrics key stakeholders need to inform how, when, and why organizations create new assets.

While large corporate organizations have been creating video content for many years, there has been a growing trend for custom-built content that is expressly designed for employees with the goal of more effectively communicating, educating, and conveying intentful corporate culture—which is extremely important for HR and management.

IPTV Plays Key Role for Large Organizations

Organizations are becoming more aware of the implications of increasing video to meet their business objectives. As video traffic rises, technology executives are keen to understand how this category of workload affects the use of key IT resources. Successful organizations have become very strategic and sophisticated about how video traffic is delivered to their employees. IPTV, for instance, has played a critical role in driving efficient use of network resources as demand for video for employees has risen.

This is especially true of IPTV that makes use of multicast-to-the-edge, which is a key technology for effective and efficient video distribution. IPTV gateway devices can provide live television feeds across enterprise networks, delivering very high-quality content without significantly impacting the general IT network.

Another important benefit of IPTV is its ability to support digital signage. For years digital signage required its own separate infrastructure. IPTV-enabled digital signage can be used to cost-effectively remind folks of organizational protocols, meeting locations, and activities at the location—without overburdening network resources.

Today, most organizations realize that as long as their video strategy is multicast-capable, their enterprise network will be able to handle large volumes of traffic very effectively. This has transformed IPTV into an elegant solution for distributing video content to companies that are on corporate campuses as well as to the growing number of employees who are working from home in the wake of COVID-19 crisis.

July’s virtual reality music festival, Splendour XR, was not a pandemic one-off: it could be a model for a permanent addition to future Australian music festivals, says one of the organisers.

“Watch this space,” said Jessica Ducrou, co-CEO of Secret Sounds, the company behind major Australian music festivals including Splendour in the Grass and Falls.

“I’m still getting over it, to be honest, putting the pieces back together, but [I’m] just trying to think about how you can take this and actually make it a really great addition to what we’re doing in real life, whenever we’re allowed to run [again].”

Ducrou was speaking at Indi-Con Australia, an online conference for the independent music industry, which ran over three days last week.

Splendour XR created a virtual North Byron Parklands, crafted by US developers, where users could immerse themselves using expensive VR gear or watch through the ‘window’ of a web browser. Visitors could switch between different spaces, observe each other’s bizarre avatars, and watch a range of pre-recorded performances by artists such as Tash Sultana, Charli XCX, King Gizzard and Chvrches.

Ducrou said she was inspired by a visit to a gaming music convention where a fan had made a version of Splendour in Minecraft and “we all looked at it and went ‘oh we just want to be there” . But as the technical hurdles became clearer she realised the scale of the challenge.

“I’m a big believer in this being a new area for artists to work in,” she said. “We’re very much at the early stages of working out how it works best for music … sport has broadcast rights [and] music hasn’t necessarily nailed the broadcast part of it. You kind of see it as a little bit of a broadcast option for your event to a global community. It will never replace ‘live’, but I do think it’s a new area and a new way of earning, and it’s just early days.”

Less than a quarter of viewers accessed the full VR experience: the market is still small and the gear expensive, despite big investments from companies such as Facebook.

Yandex Self-Driving Group, a unit of Yandex, the publicly-traded Russian tech giant, has announced a partnership with food delivery service GrubHub to be its multi-year robotic delivery provider across American college campuses. Yandex hopes to reach over 250 campuses over the course of this partnership, beginning with dozens of robots in the fall, according to a statement from Yandex Self-Driving CEO Dmitry Polishchuk.

Last September, Yandex’s self-driving unit spun out from a joint venture with Uber. In May this year, the company said it clocked a total 7 million autonomous miles, which was more than Waymo at the time. Yandex has been developing full-sized autonomous vehicle technology since 2017, which it’s tested in Tel Aviv, Israel and Ann Arbor, Michigan, as well as Innopolis, Russia via its robotaxi fleet. The company first began public deliveries on its six-wheeled, 150-pound robot, the Yandex.Rover, last April in Skolkovo, Russia, using the same self-driving technology stack as the company’s autonomous cars.

“The technology is definitely very complicated, but we can see that it has already reached the level when it can start being deployed either in form of delivery robots or robotaxi services in small towns or specific districts of big cities,” a spokesperson told TechCrunch. “We believe that in three to four years the technology will reach the level where the car can drive as safe and as efficient as an experienced human driver in rush hour in the center of cities like Moscow or New York.”

Yandex’s approach to commercialization is unique. Of all the companies developing autonomous technology for cars, Yandex is going to market with its robots first, “and it seems to be a pretty efficient way to do it,” said the spokesperson. “It took us two years to get from the idea of making a delivery robot in June 2018 to signing such a solid commercial contract,” she said.
